Nigerians To Miss Visa Appointments As US Embassy In Nigeria Shuts Down Indefinitely

Nigerians To Miss Visa Appointments As US Embassy In Nigeria Shuts Down Indefinitely

The United States embassy in Abuja and its consulate in Lagos have shutdown indefinitely, according to reports. This implies that persons who have applied for tourist, study, business visas, immigrant visas or any other travel document will have to cancel their plans.

The US embassy in Nigeria said in a Facebook post that the development was caused by the government shutdown in the US.

The statement read, “Due to the current US government shutdown, the American centres located in the embassy, Abuja and Consulate-General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the US government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons.”

The executive arm of government led by President Donald Trump and the legislative arm have been at loggerheads for nearly two months over Trump’s attempt to build a wall along the Mexican border.

Building a wall was one of Trump’s major campaign promises as part of efforts to curb illegal migration and crime.

He had boasted during his campaign that the Mexican government would pay for the wall.

However, with the refusal of the Mexican government to fund the wall, the President approached the US legislative, asking the bi-cameral institution to provide $5bn which would be used in funding the wall.

The Congress, however, rejected Trump’s proposal.

On December 11, Trump held a televised meeting with Speaker-designee, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, in which he asked them to support $5bn in funding for the border wall.

They refused and Trump said: “I am proud to shut down the government for border security … I will be the one to shut the government down. I’m not going to blame you for it … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down.” Three days later, Politico reported that Trump was willing to sign a bill that delayed a government shutdown into 2019 and the new Congress.

On December 19, the Senate unanimously passed a continuing resolution, the Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019, lasting until February 8, 2019.

‘I Touched Inside Her Panty’ – Philippines President Admits Sexually Assaulting Maid.

‘I Touched Inside Her Panty’ – Philippines President Admits Sexually Assaulting Maid.

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has sparked fresh outrage after admitting he sexually assaulted a maid when he was a schoolboy. The leader – who has in the past compared himself to Hitler and launched a ‘War on Drugs’ claiming thousands of lives – made the comments during a speech.

He claimed he had gone up to her room while she slept and touched her inappropriately.

He then compounded it by saying he later returned to the room to assault her a second time.

Duterte – who was telling an anecdote about a confession he had made to a priest as a schoolboy – faces calls to resign, with his actions said to bring shame on the entire nation.

But a spokesman for the strongman later claimed he had made it up.

Describing the incident, which happened when he was a teenager, Duterte said: “I went to the room of the maid. I lifted the blanket.

“I tried to touch what was inside the panty. I was touching. She woke up. So I left the room.”

And speaking to a priest, who had asked him to confess a sin, he said he tried to perform a sex act when he returned to the maid’s room, a transcript reveals.

He made the remarks during a speech about land reform, but went off on an attack on the Catholic Church over its sexual abuse scandal.

In response human rights group Gabriela called on Duterte to step down.

The organisation said: “This latest confession has brought shame not only himself but on the entire nation.

“He has proven himself unworthy of his position and should resign.”

But the president’s spokesman, Salvador Panelo, later claimed his boss had made the story up.

Duterte has long been criticised for his attitudes toward women.

Happy New Year 2019!!! May it be our best year, guys

Happy New year 2019!!! I know you must be as excited as I am about this fresh and clean start. My prayer is, it would be our best year yet.

Happy New Year 2019 - May it be our best year yet lailasnews

There is actually a lot to be grateful about. The gift of life is the greatest of all, and no matter whatever we might be facing, we should be happy to be alive.

Before I go on and on about how happy I am to see this new year, and how grateful I to God for keeping my life, here is my prayer for you.

May there be no death in your family. May no misfortune befall you or any member of your family. You will be alive to see the end of this year 2019.

On this New Year, may you change your direction and not dates, change your commitments and not the Calendar, change your attitude and not the actions, and bring about a change in your faith, your force and your focus and not the fruit.

May you live up to the promises you have made and may you create for you and your loved ones the most Happy New Year ever.

On this fresh start, I am highly optimistic we would achieve our goals.

Happy New Year 2019, darlings!!!

Open up if you are sleeping around for money – OAP Kaylah

OAP Kaylah has told women to open up to the public if they slepp around for money, and avoid misleading the young ones that look up to them.

Open up if you are sleeping around for money - OAP Kaylah lailasnews

The OAP took to her Twitter page to make this known, as she addressed women who sleep around to make money but don’t open up to the public. See what she wrote below;

Ladies , let’s be more sincere with ourselves next year . If you are sleeping around for money , own it , if you are working hard for your money own it , just own whatever works for you and avoid misleading the young ones that look up to you ❤. Nobody holy pass

It’s just better that way , I know a lot of women who have done all sorts to make a living and I’m in no position to judge them , they don’t owe me any explanation either , but I respect that they have turned it into something positive and encouraged others to do same

Without being dishonest , some people out here are just looking for inspiration , why show them the opposite of what the actual case is ? In my opinion , you aren’t empowering them , instead you are confusing them & they wonder why it’s harder than it looks

By gifting them with earnings from your ‘’ hardwork’’ knowing the high poverty mentality , you aren’t being sincere and they in turn wonder why nothing is really working for them . I just want real women with real stories in 2019 . I’m tired of the lies

Girl,15 steals and sells siblings for N8m to raise WASSCE fee

Girl,15 steals and sells siblings for N8m to raise WASSCE fee

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a 15-year-old Senior Secondary School pupil, Precious Ehiedo, and two others, Juliet Ogben and Favour Okoh, for allegedly stealing and selling two siblings between the ages of two and seven for N800,000.

The state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who handed over one of the recovered children to their parents , said the teenager had requested money from her parents for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination registration, but the parents allegedly told her to steal the children in order to raise the money.

The police boss said, “On November 13 at around 9am, one Precious Ehiedo, 15, daughter of Mr and Mrs Romeo and Uchechi Ehiedo, resident at Ogbuaku in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State but natives of Abraka in Delta State, requested from her parents money for the SSCE registration.

“Her parents told her to go and steal children for them to sell in order to raise money for her examination. Being familiar with the two children at her maternal home, Umuezeala Ama, in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, she stole the children.

“The girl and her father left for Mbano, but the father stopped at the Amaraku Market square, waiting for his daughter to hand over the children, who he had instructed her to steal.

“The 15-year-old met the children playing, stole them and joined her father at the Amaraku Market and both left with the children to Ogbaku.

“The children were sold to one Mama Joy at the rate of N800,000. Mama Joy, with one Favour Okoh, resold one of the children to one Juliet Ogbor for N750,000.”

The CP added that acting on credible intelligence, the operatives of the Surveillance Squad of the command recovered one of the children, Chiemerem, on December 15 at Agbor in Delta State.

Full text of Buhari’s new year message to Nigerians

Here is the full text of President Muhammadu Buhari’s New year message to Nigerians, as he said 2019 will be significant for the country.

Dear compatriots,

It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country.

2. At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God.

3. We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

4. The dawn of a New Year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events.

5. 2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders into various offices, at national and state levels.

6. As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible.

7. Elections need not be do or die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed to peace, and peace we shall have.

8. Those who continue to trumpet falsehood and negativity are on their own, fighting a losing battle. The greater number of Nigerians are trusting and believing that we shall deliver on our promises for a level playing field at the polls, and that is what we shall do.

9. Nigerians desire peace, security, prosperity, inclusiveness and infrastructural development, a nation they can be proud of, a country that can hold its own among the nations.

10. That is the journey we have embarked on since we came onboard in 2015, and we are not distracted as we move on. We are resolved to build a country in which the resources are utilized for the benefit of the largest number, and not appropriated by a privileged few in their never ending quest to satisfy their greed. We are on this mission together, and I assure you of a firm commitment to the ideals of a safe, secure, fair, just and prosperous country.

11. We have had our challenges: security, economic, political, social. But we are resolved to combat and overcome them all.

12. I appreciate your support and collaboration in previous years, and look forward to same in 2019, and beyond, as I hope you will renew the mandate you overwhelmingly gave us in 2015, for another term.

13. We are motivated by nothing other than service to motherland, and service without selfishness or personal interest.

14. I can assure you all that we are making steady and sustainable progress in all areas of national life. Those who are unbiased can see and appreciate the progress the country has made since 2015.

14. A New Year provides opportunity for renewal of commitment, and I invite you to rededicate yourselves to the vision of a Nigeria that works for all.

15. We are moving from potentials to actualization, and it’s a task to be accomplished by us all; man, woman, young, old, military, civilian, all Nigerians.
Please come along, as we journey to the land of our dreams. Happy 2019.

17. Thank you and God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Floyd Mayweather has just made $9M in 139 seconds after beating 20-year-old kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in exhibition bout.

Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement briefly to score a lucrative victory in an exhibition boxing match in Japan over kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa that will do more for his bank balance than it did for the reputation of combat sports.

The 41-year-old dropped his Japanese opponent three times in the opening round of what was planned for a three-round fight. Mayweather knocked him out in just two minutes to win the clash.

The fight topped the bill for the prestigious New Year’s Eve event promoted by Rizin, one of Asia’s fast-growing mixed martial arts organisations, at the Saitama Super Arena, and though it has drawn international attention, it was little more than a shrewd branding move for all concerned.

But for Mayweather, it was about more than just entertainment – the 41-year-old American intimated on Instagram that he would be paid $9m for the exhibition, which was scheduled for three rounds.

‘I cried today’ – Adekunle Gold shares touching story as Governor Ambode appoints his dad as Permanent Secretary for Education in Lagos

'I cried today' - Adekunle Gold shares touching story as Governor Ambode appoints his dad as Permanent Secretary for Education in Lagos

On Monday, Governor Ambode swore in Hakeem Muri-Okunola as the new Head of Service in the state and also appointed six new Permanent Secretaries, including Adekunle Gold’s father, Adeyemi Kosoko.

In reaction to the special moment, Adekunle Gold said he cried as he sat in the auditorium while his father achieved his life-long dream.

In his words, ‘growing up, I watched my dad worked so hard for too little. Teachers weren’t big earners. But my dad, with the help of my mum, provided everything all 4 of us needed – maybe not wanted, but definitely needed’.

I remember when my dad went to Uniben for his first degree. My sisters and I were very young, and communication with him was pretty much impossible, because it was before the era of cellphones. We only saw him when he had school breaks.

He finished as the best in his class with a distinction in Fine Arts, Painting & Graphics Major. He was part of the team that co-wrote the module for teachers at one time. Everyday, after his primary assignment as a Fine Arts teacher in Keke High School, he would go to Teachers’ College to teach other teachers.

He was willing to do whatever it would take to make extra money to fend for us and build a house for us to live in. I almost forgot – he is a published writer. Brilliant Man!

My dad didn’t literally sit me down to teach me great values and diligence. Luckily, he didn’t have to, because I saw it in him everyday.

He has given so much of himself, and truly values the opportunity to be serving the government and every school he’s worked at as either teacher, VP or principal. He’s won about 30 awards for his selfless service to the state. My Dad. A Man!

A man that refuses to cut corners, believes in hard work and is known for his integrity. He always said to me; “Your name is precious, you must protect it!

Hard as it might be to believe, I can honestly say I’ve never seen him disobey traffic rules or give bribe. When other principals allowed people use their schools for special centres, my dad said no.

He said – “I have been in service for far too long to let quick money ruin my reputation.” His dream has always been to become a Permanent Secretary of Lagos state. It was his dream, it was also mine for him.

In this moment, this 56 year old brilliant man’s dream is now his reality. Today, I sat in the audience, and I listened as they read out loud, his achievements. I watched as he was sworn in as a Tutor General/Permanent Secretary for Education.

So I cried today, but they were happy tears.

OAP Toolz recounts her journey to motherhood

OAP Toolz has recounted her journey to motherhood, revealing that she prayed for her new born, and also talking about her miscarriage last year.

Tolu Oniru-Demuren and her hubby, Captain Tunde, welcomed their first child, a boy, few weeks ago, and she took to Instagram to recount how she prayed to God for a child and how he heard her cry and blessed her with a son she is in awe of. See what she wrote below;

”’For this child I have prayed and You heard my cry.
For this baby I had faith and You gave new life’… This time last year, I posted my most vulnerable and honest post to date after my miscarriage.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES!! This time last year, I would often cry myself to sleep thinking about the baby we lost, but now I can’t sleep because I can’t stop staring at the most precious gift God has given me this year….MY SON.???
I look at my little prince and I am in complete awe! I still can’t believe I’m a mummy.

I can’t wait to teach him everything I know and learn so much from him too.
I can’t wait to show him how much every inch of me loves him.
I also can’t wait to “Patience Ozokwor” his future girlfriends ?? The biggest lesson I learnt this year is to NEVER…EVER GIVE UP ON GOD.
Since last year, we prayed, fasted and prayed some more for God to bless us with a healthy baby in 2018. Towards the end of the first quarter, I started to think that our prayers wouldn’t be answered in 2018. I stupidly got impatient and frustrated with God.

One day in April, Captain came home and found me in bed crying my eyes out because I thought we wouldn’t have a baby in 2018. Little did I know that as I was crying and getting upset and frustrated with God, I was actually already pregnant.
While I was being weak and doubting Him, He had already answered our prayers!

For our family, friends and every single one of you that remembered us in prayer….Thank you so very much. May God overwhelm you with incredible blessings this coming year.

For women dealing with the loss of a child like I did last year, know that the story doesn’t end there. God has already completed your testimony, and I pray that you (just like me) will be celebrating sooner rather than later.

For anyone waiting on God to answer their prayers, please remember that God’s delay isn’t His denial.
Thank you Heavenly Father for always showing that you’ve got me!

Lots of love and Happy Amazing 2019 from Toolz, Captain and Chairman ?? #GodsGotMe #TreeOfUs #Testimony#We2019Ready

Meghan Markle will have a girl, Taylor Swift will get engaged: Male Psychic makes predictions for 2019

A male psychic who claims he was an Egyptian queen in a former life has made a series of ‘psychic’ predictions for 2019. Nicolas Aujula, 33, claims his dreams have led him to predict outcomes of major events including the Syrian war and the winner of the Apprentice. He says he’s a past-life regression therapist, hypnotherapist and psychic astrologer.

Below are some of his predictions:

Royal baby:

Nicolas says that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child, due in spring 2019, will be a girl.

Celebrity predictions:

Nicolas believes that Taylor Swift is going to announce her engagement, Nicole Kidman will fall pregnant, Madonna will face criticism for doing charity work and someone called Justin will face a showbiz scandal.

Speaking on natural disasters, he said there will be earthquakes in Cuba and China, issues with crops will lead to rising food prices.

On Theresa May, Nicolas said:

A lot of people have been asking me if Theresa May will stay in power.

I don’t follow politics very closely myself, but one name that keeps coming to me is Philip Hammond.

I don’t know if he’ll come to power himself or just try to, but he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

On Brexit, he said:

I’m not seeing the end result as being positive, especially economically. I’ve been seeing a lot of visions of property crashes, so I think that could be linked.

Actress Damilola Adegbite shares her biggest testimony of 2018 and how God gave her a massive army

Actress Damilola Adegbite shares her biggest testimony of 2018 and how God gave her a massive army

Nollywood actress, Damilola Adegbite has just shared her biggest testimony of 2018 and how God gave her a massive army to fight her battle. According to her, ‘I was fighting a serious battle for over a year. A battle I knew I could never ever have won by power nor by might. So instead, I decided to pray HARD about it. Oh dear, I disturbed God on this matter. I would sing, dance, cry, praise, worship; day and night’.

A whole year passed and nothing happened. But I refused to give up. On the 17th of May (a day before my birthday), I went to a mid week service. I dragged myself to church that day. I was overwhelmed. I had no strength left in me. My head kept telling me to give up, but my heart and spirit said NO.

There was an altar call in church that day for people who desperately needed God to show up for them. I joined about a hundred other people. I tried to control my emotions. A few tears escaped and I would quickly wipe them away but at some point, I let go. I showed my father, how much pain I was in. For those few minutes, I couldn’t care less which blogger, friend or foe was watching. Damilola Adegbite?! Crying like a baby in church? Me I was ready for the jist to be everywhere by the next day, but I was even more ready to risk it all for a breakthrough. Little did I know, that my day had come.

After the prayers, we got up. My face was a mess so I bent my head and was walking back to my seat. I had taken a few steps when someone touched my shoulder so gently. I turned around and it was my pastor’s wife. Prior to this, I had NEVER met her. She looked at me so kindly and pulled me into her arms, right there in front of the whole church. That was it, I burst into tears like a baby. Before I could even figure out what was happening, I was taken into the pastor’s office and asked to wait to see my pastor and his wife after service. Small me!! To cut the long story short, hmmm, words can never explain. God gave me a MASSIVE ARMY. Spiritual, financial, emotional, every arsenal that I could ever need to fight and win this battle.

Here’s to you my friend. Keep pushing! Don’t loose hope! Refuse to be intimidated! If your hopes and dreams didn’t manifest in 2018, DO NOT GIVE UP! Your time is almost here. Keep holding on

Nigerian man jailed for attempted suicide

After weeks of being hungry and jobless, the 25-year old says he reached breaking point after a security guard pushed him to the ground while he was searching for work at a building site.

Humiliated, Ugokwe went to a nearby lagoon and jumped in.

After being rescued by passing fishermen, Ugokwe says he was handed over to police officers who arrested him and put him in jail.

Attempting suicide is a criminal offense in Nigeria, under Section 327 of the Criminal Code Act, and carries a penalty of up to one year in prison. A holdover from when Nigeria was a British colony, the law was abolished in Britain under the Suicide Act of 1961, which happened after Nigeria gained its independence in 1960.

Ugokwe says he’s speaking out about his attempt to take his own life despite stigma around the subject in Nigeria because he doesn’t want people to suffer as he did.

When he woke up on the fisherman’s boat, Ugokwe says he was angry that his attempt had failed.

Following his arrest, Ugokwe was held at a cell near the Lagos lagoon, in the country’s economic capital, before being transferred one week later to another cell on the Lagos mainland.

Ugokwe says he was unaware that attempted suicide was a crime in Nigeria.

“When they put me in the cell, the first thing that came to my mind was what did I do? I didn’t kill anybody. I did not steal. What am I doing here? What did I do wrong? It’s my life, not (the) government’s life,” he said.

Shortly after his arrest in February, Ugokwe appeared before a magistrate to determine whether he had committed an offense. His case was postponed and he was transferred to another facility on Lagos Island.

It was there he met Imanuella Ojeah, a criminal lawyer and a member of the Elevation Church in Lagos, whose volunteer prison unit makes weekly trips to local prisons.

“I remember he seemed tired of life. He begged me to get him out of that place. He told me… I am not mad. I am just depressed and don’t have money to eat,” Ojeah told CNN.

Ojeah and her team represented Ugokwe at his next court appearance at Sabo Magistrates Court, a few weeks later, in April 2017. They were asked if someone was willing to act as a guarantor for Ugokwe and look after his welfare if he were released.

Ojeah found someone from the Elevation Church who agreed to look after Ugokwe and the magistrate dismissed the case.

Man Reveals What A Lady Did To Him For Wearing Bathroom Slippers To Ikeja Mall

A Nigerian man, Martin Beck Nworah, has taken to social media to narrate his encounter with a lady who slammed him for wearing bathroom slippers to Mall in Lagos.A Nigerian man, Martin Beck Nworah, has taken to social media to narrate his encounter with a lady who slammed him for wearing bathroom slippers to Mall in Lagos.

Read what he shared below on Facebook.

Yesterday evening, I honoured my friend’s request to take me to the cinema. I got to ICM (Ikeja City Mall) before her so I had to wait.

About 20 minutes later, she arrived with a female friend of hers. She tried introducing us to each other. “Errmmm…babe, this is Martin Beck Nworah. Beck…this is…”

Her friend couldn’t wait for her to finish before she cut in; “Which village did you pick this guy from? Babe you’re bigger than this na. How can you be hanging out with a guy who comes to a Mall wearing bathroom slippers.”

I was shocked. My friend was shocked. We never expected that. I tried smiling but my cheeks were shaking. LOL. My friend gave her a sharp look and finished the introduction. I was already thinking about my life sef and the insult.

My friend went into Silverbird and the movie we wanted to see was sold out. The next option required an additional 1k to get 3 tickets. She didn’t have extra cash and her friend didn’t have.

Without asking if I had, she told her friend she had to go back to the house or wait outside. “Babe, you need go back or you can stay outside and wait for us.”

Her friend couldn’t understand why she would stand her down for a guy wearing bathroom slippers. “Babe, I told you to stay in the house but you insisted on coming out.

You will shaa wait outside or you go home.” She grumbled, muttered incoherent stuff and told my friend to see her off. I smiled ehhh.

When my friend returned, she snapped this picture. “But Beck, why would you wear a bathroom slippers and come out to ICM of all places? Son of Nebu, what is your wahala?” I laughed real hard. “I’m not regular…”She held my lips. “Nonsense boy.”

Her friend later called me in the night with my friend’s phone to apologise. She said my friend later explained to her who I was and everything. She was sorry for reacting the way she did.

I told her it wasn’t her fault, I was even surprised at myself. This Lagos life sef! Till we get to the Promised Land, I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.

Uti Nwachukwu Reveals Why He Is Afraid of Marriage

Nigerian media personality Uti Nwachukwu has mentioned that he is afraid of marriage considering the high rate of divorce among married people nowadays.

The reality TV star who spoke to Joy Marcus in this new interview also spoke on his career, education and other issues.

How did you come into the entertainment industry?

As a Big Brother Africa star, a lot of doors were opened to me. Inasmuch as I didn’t win the BBA 3, it still gave me leverage in the entertainment industry. I have not always had interest in acting because my first love was music; so, I always wanted to be a music star. Acting and hosting events came naturally to me, and I was doing it while in school. As for acting, I used to mimic a lot of people and my friends told me that I should become an actor.

What was your parent’s reaction when you told them about BBA?

I didn’t tell them; I only told my sisters. When I got back from the competition, they were proud of me but they said my dad was shocked. I made them happy though I was evicted the first time. Sadly, when I won the BBA 5, my dad had passed on. It was a difficult year for my mother; so, watching me in the house was the only thing that put a smile on her face.

Who gave you your first opportunity in the entertainment industry?

I was given my first opportunity in acting (movies) by Ini Edo and Moses Inwang but for television series, it was Ruke Amata. For TV presenting, I was given an opportunity by Diamond Group Production on a show called, You and I.

How much were you paid for your first movie?

As far back as 2008, I think I was paid N100,000 which was a huge sum as of that time; especially for someone who was not even popular. I was surprised but I reasoned that it was because of the BBA platform.

If you have the opportunity, would you feature in Yoruba movies?

I am an actor; so, I should be open to playing any role. I can’t speak Yoruba but I can learn. There are actors in other countries that learn new languages for a movie. I used to say I would never do an epic movie but I ended up acting in my first epic movie this year. The movie is titled, Trials of Ma’pe, and the reception was really great.

What is your view on the state of the Nigerian entertainment industry?

I will like to see more government funding in the industry. The government should take the entertainment industry as seriously as they take the oil and gas industry. In advanced climes, entertainment industries get a lot of support from their governments. At this time, we ought to have a movie village (in this country).

What are some of the challenges you face on the job?

I would say time management because sometimes, you have so much to do in so little time. However, I love it because it keeps me going. I have been able to prioritise and learn how to work my way around the time.

Since you love music, do you have the intention of releasing any single or album soon?

For fun and pleasure definitely but (not) to make money from it hopefully. I make alternative music; so, I will feature a couple of artistes that do same such as Simi and Adekunle Gold. Next year, I want to start featuring in more movies. I know I said movies don’t pay a lot but I have many friends who are also producers and they have started booking me for roles.

We hardly see you and Alex Ekubo on red carpets anymore, unlike before when the two of you were inseparable. Did you have a fallout?

Can we move to the next question please? I don’t talk about my personal life in interviews.

Some of your colleagues got married in 2018. When do you intend to settle down?

I don’t know when but when it happens, it happens. With the way people are marrying and getting divorced, one has to think twice before going into it. I have met more unhappy couples than happily married couples in my life. It is really scary because if marriage was such a beautiful thing, why are there many unhappy couples.

If you check statistics, most married people are complaining. However, I will get married by God’s grace. I will not marry out of my own understanding. I don’t want to be a divorcee; so, I am taking my time. I am currently working on my patience and tolerance level. I am learning how to live peacefully because I am used to having things my way.

What were your childhood ambitions?

I am living it right now. I grew up in Ughelli, Delta State, and my parents prevented us from playing with other kids on the streets; so, they stocked the house with movies. This inspired me to become what I watched. The only thing remaining for me to be fulfilled is to cross to Hollywood; then, I will be satisfied.

Which schools did you attend?

I studied Computer Science and Education at the Benson Idahosa University, Benin City. I can actually practise and become a teacher. I finished well with a 3.9 GPA. If I wasn’t an entertainer, I would probably be working in a telecommunications firm.

Reacting to the issue, the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Joseph Iliya Bega stated that no reason was given by Israel for the denial.

Speaking during the farewell ceremony of the Pilgrims, he explained that the affected Pilgrims have been pleaded upon and were asked to forward names of their choices to replace them within the next four days from Monday the 31st December 2018.

The Executive Secretary also stated that another eight other Pilgrims had a delay in acquiring their visas but explained that the delay in the visas can only delay their departure but will not deny them the pilgrimage exercise.

In his farewell speech, the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, urged the intending Pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of Gombe State and Nigeria by ensuring high sense of humility, responsibility and dedication to the Almighty God.

He called on them to “avoid all forms of evil vices such as drug trafficking, abscondment or any act of indiscipline that will negatively portray the image of our beloved State and country”.

Former house-help appreciates ex-boss who sponsored his education

A former house-help turned educationist has taken to social media to appreciate his ex-boss who sponsored his education.

Former house-help appreciates ex-boss who sponsored his education lailasnews

The Nigerian man, Zion Oshiobugie, took to his Facebook page to thank his former boss who took him in as a houseboy 14 years ago and ensured he got the education his biological children got as well.

Zion also revealed that education unlocked his mind and broke the chain of poverty in his life. Read what he wrote on Facebook below;

14 years ago, December 2004 to be precise I came to warri, Delta State to be the house boy (Domestic help) of @ndonyeka (Engr Nnamdi Onyeka & Dr Mrs Stephanie Onyeka).

D8 iffie estate, refinery road by Mega Hilton hotel was the house I stayed for 4 years. Engr Nnamdi never saw me as a second class citizen and as such he sent me to school instead of paying my parents for my service. I obtained OND from the petroleum training institute, Effurun while in his house as a domestic help. He payed my way through school. I stayed as his domestic help for 4 years 2004-2008.

Education unlocked my mind and broke the chains of poverty from my life hence my resolve to provide quality education for 20 million underprivileged children and orphans in my life time.

Long story short it’s 14 years down the line and I still remian grateful for all you did for me sir. Help say a word of appreciation to him.

I end with a quote from mother Theresa. ‘ Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same — with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead’.

Alleged $5m bribe: Hamzat is a lying, wannabe politician, says Goodluck Jonathan

Alleged $5m bribe: Hamzat is a lying, wannabe politician, says Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied a claim by the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, that the former President allegedly offered him a $5m bribe during the 2015 campaigns.

Hamzat, who had reportedly made the allegation at the launch of the (APC governorship candidate, Babajide) Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat Advocates held at Fidimaye Hall, Oko-Oba, Abule-Egba, Lagos on Friday, said he rejected the offer.

But Jonathan, in a statement by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, refuted the claim, describing Hamzat as an obscure character in the politics of 2015.

He said, “Our attention has been drawn to a claim by the running mate of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr Obafemi Hamzat, that he rejected a $5m bribe from former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 elections.

“There is no better way to respond to this frivolous claim than to quickly dismiss it as a blatant lie apparently concocted by a wannabe politician desperate for votes in a campaign season. In the first place, this character is an obscure individual who in 2015 had neither a recognisable name nor political clout.”

According to the statement, Jonathan has never met “this man who was obviously not relevant in the national politics of 2015, let alone seek to offer him bribe.”

“Assuming anybody had $5m to spend to better his political fortune, as Mr Hamzat claimed, why seek to waste it on a man who was just a commissioner prior to 2015, and whose best outing so far is to function as a hand-picked running mate to a governorship candidate in the forthcoming 2019 elections?

“His is obviously the antics of a desperate and dishonest politician seeking to apply subterfuge and outright lies, believing that such could boost his lowly image, win him public sympathy and, possibly, votes.”

Teenager sells siblings to raise WASSCE registration fee

A teenage girl has been arrested after she stole two siblings between the ages of two and seven, and sold the children for N800,000.

Teenager sell siblings to raise WASSCE registration fee lailasnews (1)

The 15-year-old girl, Precious Ehiedo, and two others, Juliet Ogben and Favour Okoh, were arrested by men of the operatives of the Imo state police command.

While parading the suspects before newsmen and also handing one of the recovered babies to the parents, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, said Precious stole the siblings, two-year-old Chiemerem and seven-year-old Mmesoma Nwoke, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State after following the advise of her parents who refused to give her money for money to register for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination WASSCE, when she asked.

Her parents had told her they had no money for her exam registration and advised her to do what her ‘mates are doing’, steal children, sell them and make money.

“On November 13 at around 9am, one Precious Ehiedo, 15, daughter of Mr and Mrs Romeo and Uchechi Ehiedo, resident at Ogbuaku in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State but natives of Abraka in Delta State, requested from her parents money for the SSCE registration. Her parents told her to go and steal children for them to sell in order to raise money for her examination.

The 15-year-old met the children playing, stole them and joined her father at the Amaraku Market and both left with the children to Ogbaku. The children were sold to one Mama Joy at the rate of N800,000. Mama Joy, with one Favour Okoh, resold one of the children to one Juliet Ogbor for N750,000.”

Galadanchi said the police immediately commenced investigation and was able to recover one of the children, Chiemerem, on December 15th at Agbor in Delta State.

The police boss added that the suspects would be arraigned in court soon.
