Many ladies in the late 30s never saw it coming – Nigerian man

A Nigerian man who took to Facebook to dish out advice, disclosed that many ladies in their late 30s never saw it coming.

Many ladies in the late 30s never saw it coming - Nigerian man lailasnews

According to the Nigerian man, ladies who fall in this category had plans of finishing their ‘first degree, masters, a job, a promotion, make money, be independent and settle down by 30, latest 32’.  He further disclosed that only few men would marry a 35-year-old woman who is independent and opinionated when we live in a highly hypergamous (act of marrying someone wealthier than you) society.

He wrote;

Many women who are single and in their mid and late 30s today never saw it coming. They had a plan: finish their first degree, masters, a job, a promotion, make money, be independent and settle down by 30, latest 32. Of course, nature always laughs back at their fantastic attempt to dictate the pace of their lives.

Over the years, they turn down potential husbands, go on a partying spree like they have frozen time, only to arrive at 37 with nothing to show for it other than money in the bank, a car, and sometimes a child from a relationship that never quite worked.

So, now they are stuck in a phase where they will never find a man of their dreams and have to settle for any man who will be gracious enough to even suggest marriage. By now, all those flimsy and shallow standards they used to have are gone, humility is their second name.

I have seen many women in their 20s buy into the misguided, feminist belief that men and marriage are bad for their academic and career advancement. What feminism does not factor in is that the older a woman get, the less a chance she stands of marrying someone desirable. It is a fact of life, not a chauvinistically inspired thought.

Very few men would marry a 35-year-old woman who is independent and opinionated when we live in a highly hypergamous (act of marrying someone wealthier than you) society. There are plenty of young and hot beautiful women ready to settle into a marriage where they play the second fiddle as long as the man provides.

It is good to be ambitious, even better to break the stupid glass ceilings, but at what price? Bottom line, at some point, you will need a man in your life. Granted there are lesbians and some who are not interested in marriage, but my experience with older single women has proven that they mostly live a life full of regrets.

Terry G Dishes On His Baby Mama And Songs

Nigerian sinsger, Terry G who recently released a new single has disclosed that her baby mama doesn’t like his song even though she loves him.

According to Terry G, his baby mama with whom he has a six-year-old son was his biggest critic as regards his career.

He told Saturday Beats;

“My baby mama is not worried about the fact that we have not got married yet so people should not worry on our behalf. At the end of the day, what is marriage? I do not have a clue and I cannot jump into it. “We are still both young and by God’s grace, we have been through the struggles together. Most of my business is being handled by her. When we get to a certain age, we would do it (get married). I believe in the institution of marriage.

“She is the only child of her mother and the pressure seems to be more from her side (family) but she is in charge. She is a rich girl and in charge. She does not feel threatened by the fact that we are not yet legally married because she knows the kind of person that I am. She knows Gabriel, but does not know Terry G. She does not even like Terry G. She is not a fan of Terry G and she criticises my songs a lot. She is so classy.”

I hadn’t made enough money before my arrest – Robbery suspect

A robbery suspect who was paraded alongside his gang members in Rivers State, has lamented over not making enough money before his arrest.

I hadn’t made enough money before my arrest – Robbery suspect lailasnews

The 28-year-old robbery suspect Junior Nmeni, who told newsmen that he and his gang members had only been able to make N223,000 and get some phones from robbery operations he participated in, further disclosed that he hoped to make enough proceeds from the crime so that he could take care of his wife.

The suspect who was paraded alongside six other members of the gang – a 25-year-old woman, Precious Okoye, aka Angel; Oliver Nwokocha; Emeka Iwuayawu; Victor Nwabusis; Sunny Nweke and Ezekiel Ishaya – was arrested by an Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team led by DCP Abba Kyari.

The expectant father who said he went into robbery after he lost his job as a cleaner at the Port Harcourt International Airport, was arrested following a petition addressed to the police by the family of a golfer, Usman Zabadi, who was reportedly killed by the gang in his house on Poultry Road, Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt.

The suspects who made away with some television sets, two mobile phones and an Automated Teller Machine card, withdrew undisclosed sums of money using the ATM card which belonged to the deceased’s wife.

The gang was busted with images generated from the CCTV at the ATM, and one Nwokocha who reportedly shot Zabadi dead, was arrested in the Iguruta area of Port Harcourt and led the operatives to apprehend other members, including Nmeni.

“I was a cleaner at the Port Harcourt International Airport where I earned N18,000 as salary. I joined the gang seven months ago because the company I worked for sacked me and things became very hard for me and my wife.

“There was a gun that belonged to my late elder brother. I found the gun in the ceiling of his apartment. There was a riot in Nwokocha’s community and I gave the gun to him. After the crisis, he used the gun to rob and he killed a man with it.

“He returned the gun and told me what he had done.  I decided to join the gang. We robbed a man and a woman at Iguruta. We kidnapped the woman’s sister and I raped her. I kept her in my house for two days before Iwuayawu and I started demanding a ransom.

“We were paid N200,000 ransom and I got N23,000 as my share since we were six that did the job. The next operation I went for was at a hotel.  Elvis (a gang member at large) brought one of the guns we used for the operation. It was Sunny, another member, who gave us information about the hotel. We got N21,000 from the hotel and three phones” he said.

Nmeni who disclosed that his last operation with the gang was at the home of one Mr. Ogundun, stated that they were confronted by their victim which forced them to retreat. He added that he had not made enough money from “the business” before he was arrested.

“Elvis was the one who brought ‘the job’ but on the day we went to the man’s house, we didn’t succeed. The man had a gun and he shot at Nwokocha. We took the man’s motorcycle away.

“I hadn’t made much money from ‘the business’ (robbery) before I was arrested.  I was hoping to raise enough money which I intended to use for my pregnant wife’s delivery,” Nmeni stated.

Leave the Army out of politics and fake news – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian army has issued out another warning, as they told Nigerians to leave the army out of politics and fake news.

Leave the Army out of politics and fake news - Nigerian Army lailasnews

The Nigerian army also stated in its press statement that it will continue to be professional in their assigned roles, and remain apolitical at all times. The statement reads in full;

The Nigerian Army has noted with great concern the deliberate and concerted efforts to mislead the public by some people through misinformation. Thus creating erroneous impression of the Nigerian Army through inaccurate and false publication of casualty figures on the unfortunate attacks on some of its locations in the North East.

The latest of this worrisome development was the attack on our troops location at Metele, Borno State, in which some persons and media outlets continued to circulate various wrong acounts and inaccurate casuality figures of own troops without efforts to verify from the military.

This is coming at the heels of our release of 28th November 2018 in which we gave accurate details of the attacks and casualty figures in a bid to set the records straight and inform the public true account of things. We also promised to continuously carry the public along through accurate and timely information dissemination on operations and other activities of the Nigerian Army in the release.

However it was observed that the trend continued unabated. Most of these inaccurate, false reports and fake news were aimed at denigrating the leadership of the Nigerian Army.
Regrettably, the rate at which some mischievous persons ignorantly attack the Armed Forces of Nigeria, especially the Nigerian Army is very alarming and unfortunate. This is deliberate attempt to demoralise the Nigerian Army which would have devastating consequences on troops’ will to discharge their constitutional duties especially in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, thus affecting national security.

We would like to warn all those mischief makers to keep the Nigerian Army out of their politics and mischief. Journalists and media platforms should be professional and accurate in their reportage. The achievements of the Nigerian Army within the last three years are glaringly obvious, therefore, whatever recent temporary setbacks we experienced in the course of the fight against terrorism and insurgency should not be the yardstick for condemning these laudable three and half years’ accomplishments.

We have however identified the few unpatriotic harbingers of the fake news on the attack at Metele and would take appropriate legal actions against them. This is to ensure that the Nigerian Army is insulated from propaganda and ulterior motives of destabilising the country. The Nigerian Army is quite aware that the perpetrators through these acts are covertly supporting terrorists and their activities in Nigeria with a long term objective. We are also aware that they want to use insecurity to scuttle and subvert the democratic process in the country.

Consequently, we would like to state unequivocally that no amount of mischief or pressure would circumvent the journey to a peaceful, free and fair general elections in Nigeria. We therefore need the continued support, encouragement and understanding of well meaning Nigerians as we deal decisively with the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating at the fringes of our borders with contiguous countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.

We are committed to the defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria. We hasten to state that we will continue to be professional in our assigned roles and remain apolitical at all times. Once more we warn mischief makers and proponents of misinformation and fake news to desist from the such practice and join other well meaning, law abiding Nigerians to support our Army to countering terrorism and insurgency in the country.

Kindly disseminate this to the public through your medium.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Olu Maintain Speaks On “Yahozee” Promoting Internet Fraud

Olu Maintain has debunked claims that his hit single Yahooze promoted internet fraud.

The veteran singer said he was not the one that began the trend, stressed that his 11-year-old song “Yahooze” didn’t promote Internet fraud.

Olu Maintain added that his song was about an artiste that got a million dollar deal, and the video he shot for the song passed the message across clearly.

“When you create a body of art, people can misinterpret it the way they see fit. I mean, Yahooze is 11 years old and if you watch the video of the song, it was centered around an upcoming artiste that got a million dollar record deal. That was the message I presented with the song. Does the music video in any way represent Internet fraud? The answer is no.

“I cannot be responsible for how people interpret a work of art. It is like a painting, a man would value a painting for millions of dollars but to the other man, it does not make sense. Art should be subjected to everyone’s interpretation. My interpretation of that form of art was made very obvious,” he said.

In his chat with Saturday Beats, he further revealed why it’s been difficult releasing another hit song that could rival “Yahooze”. He said;

“It is a different generation and a different era with a different demography. As an artiste; as you grow, your core demography changes.

“Yahooze came out in an era when there was no social media. Today, people’s patience to digest any material is very short; 11 years ago, it was not like that. If you had a hit song, it could last for about two years but these days you are competing with so many bodies of work and it would take something special for you to have the same kind of buzz that a song like Yahooze had.”

2018 party primaries among the worst in Nigeria – INEC chairman

INEC chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who spoke at a capacity-building workshop for journalists, jointly organised by INEC, European Centre for Electoral Support, European Union and European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria, disclosed that the 2018 party primaries is among the worst in Nigeria.

2018 party primaries among the worst in Nigeria – INEC chairman lailasnews

The INEC Chairman who disclosed that the commission had received 52 petitions and protests from aggrieved party aspirants over controversial primaries, added that the commission had already been joined in 396 pending cases in various courts across the country over the conduct of party primaries and nomination of candidates.

According to Prof. Mahmood Yakubu,  there would likely be more court cases, given the over 300 requests for Certified True Copies of documents from the commission, which he said was a prelude to more court actions.

“Unfortunately, we have also witnessed some of the most acrimonious party primaries in our recent history. Internal party democracy is still a source of concern to our electoral progress. So far, the commission has been joined in 396 pending actions in various courts across the country arising from the conduct of party primaries and nomination of candidates by political parties.

“We have similarly received 302 requests for CTCs of documents, mainly our monitoring reports of party primaries and copies of personal particulars of candidates. These requests are obviously a prelude to more court actions. In addition, we have also received 52 petitions and protests from aggrieved party aspirants.

“The implication of these challenges is that as we prepare for the general elections, we are also going to grapple with pre-election litigations” he said.

Punch reported that the chairman also disclosed that about 73 political parties had filed their nominations at the end of the period for the substitution and withdrawal of candidates, for the 2019 presidential election.

The INEC Chairman who gave an update on the number and gender of candidates competing for elections into the National Assembly seats, also disclosed that few parties nominated candidates below the mandatory age of 35 years for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. According to him, 6,483 candidates were jostling for the 469 seats at the National Assembly.

“For National Assembly elections, a total of 1,848 candidates (1,615 males and 233 females) are vying for 109 senatorial seats while 4,635 candidates (4,066 males and 569 females) are competing for the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

“Similarly, the full list of candidates and their political parties will be published for public information in line with the commission’s timetable and schedule of activities.

“As for state elections, a total of 1,068 candidates (980 males and 88 females) are contesting 29 governorship positions, with 805 males and 263 female deputy governorship candidates.

“The commission is working on the list of candidates nominated by political parties for the 991 state assembly constituencies as well as the 68 area council chairmen and councillors for the Federal Capital Territory. The full details will also be published for public information in line with our timetable and schedule of activities” he said.

On conducting a free and fair election, Mahmood who disclosed that INEC did not and would never tolerate any breach of the strict timelines provided for in the timetable for the elections, added that parties that failed to respect the democratic process in selecting candidates during primary elections had lost the moral right to complain about secondary elections.

Just In: George Bush, 41st President, Dies at 94

George Bush, 41st President, Dies at 94

George Bush, the 41st president of the United States and the father of the 43rd U.S President,  who steered the nation through a tumultuous period in world affairs but was denied a second term after support for his presidency collapsed under the weight of an economic downturn and his seeming inattention to domestic affairs, died on Friday. He was 94.

His death, which was announced by his office, came less than eight months after that of his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush.

“George Herbert Walker Bush, World War II naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018. He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings,” the former president’s office said in a statement.

Mr. Bush had a form of Parkinson’s disease that forced him to use a wheelchair or motorized scooter in recent years, and he had been in and out of hospitals during that time as his health declined. In April, a day after attending Mrs. Bush’s funeral, he was treated for an infection that had spread to his blood. In 2013, he was in dire enough shape with bronchitis that former President George W. Bush, his son, solicited ideas for a eulogy.

But he proved resilient each time. In 2013 he told well-wishers, through an aide, to “put the harps back in the closet.”

No salary for striking ASUU lecturers – FG

The Federal Government (FG), has directed the vice-chancellors of public universities and inter-varsity centres to ensure there is no salary for striking ASUU lecturers.

No salary for striking ASUU lecturers – FG lailasnews

In the memo by the National Universities Commission to universities’ VCs which was signed by the Director, Research, Information and Technology, Dr S. B Ramon-Yusuf, Vice Chancellors were directed to enforce the no-work-no-pay rule on the lecturers who are on strike, as payment of salaries from any other sources would be viewed as violation of extant rules and government’s directive.

The memo partly read;

“In view of the current Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Federal Government has directed that there shall be no payment of any form of salaries and allowances to the staff on strike in federal and inter-varsity centres.

“Consequently, I am to direct vice-chancellors to apply the “No-work-no-pay” rule. However, universities and inter-varsity centres are to pay salaries and allowances to non-teaching staff. All Vice-Chancellors and Directors of Centers should note that the salaries to staff on strike from whatever source of funds shall be viewed as violation of extant rules and directive of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Chairman of the University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Dr. Deji Omole who reacted to the FG directive of no salary for striking ASUU lecturers, stated that it was shameful that the Nigerian government owe lecturers seven years of unpaid salaries and allowances and still want them to continue to work while the Presidency and the National Assembly members feed fat on the wealth of the nation.

The ASUU chairman who stated that the military government tried unsuccessfully to intimidate the collective will of Nigerian masses, added that a government that prides itself as having integrity should honour agreements reached with the union instead of resulting to harassment and intimidation of union members on a patriotic struggle to save public education in the country.

George Bush dies at 94

George Bush dies at 94 lailasnews

George Bush who advocated a “kinder, gentler” conservatism, pursued policies that helped topple the Soviet empire and initiated military campaigns that ousted one foreign dictator and crippled another, was elected the 41st President of the United States and fathered the nation’s 43rd.

His wife Barbara died in April 17 at age 92. Their 73-year marriage was longer than that of any presidential couple in U.S. history. Their children included former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Mr. Bush had a form of Parkinson’s disease that forced him to use a wheelchair or motorized scooter in recent years, and he had been in and out of hospitals during that time as his health declined.

George Bush, a Republican, was a transitional figure in the White House, where he served from 1989 to 1993, capping a career of more than 40 years in public service. A decorated Navy pilot who was shot down in the Pacific in 1944, he was the last of the World War II generation to occupy the Oval Office.

George Bush who was reported dead late Friday, entered the White House with one of the most impressive résumés of any president. He had been a two-term congressman from Texas, ambassador to the United Nations, chairman of the Republican National Committee, United States envoy to China, director of the Central Intelligence Agency and vice president, under Ronald Reagan.

I Can’t Take Responsibility For Chibok Girls’ Abduction, I Don’t Control Boko Haram – Goodluck Jonathan Insists

I Can’t Take Responsibility For Chibok Girls’ Abduction, I Don’t Control Boko Haram – Goodluck Jonathan Insists

Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s former President who spoke in an interview with BBC stated he can’t take responsibility for Chibok girls’ abduction. Goodluck Jonathan who stated that Boko Haram should be blamed for the abduction of the 200 schoolgirls in 2014, maintained that he can’t take responsibility for Chibok girls’ abduction.

“I cannot take responsibility for the abduction, I don’t control Boko Haram. They are criminals. But as a President, of course you know it is not the President that goes to the field. You have security and intelligence officers that do the work.

“Let me admit that yes, maybe they did their best but their best was not good enough for us to recover the girls. That I cannot say I am right or I am wrong. That does not mean I am trying to remove myself from any blame.

“I may not be blamed for the action but I could be blamed that my security intelligence system was not strong enough to rescue the girls. If I as a politician could tell the whole world that my political ambition for any office is not worth the blood of a single Nigerian, how would I be happy that girls have been kidnapped? I am not that kind of character.”

The former President who also lamented over the way the Chibok issue was politicised, wondered why a First Lady of the United States would take part in carrying a ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ placard.

“Immediately the Chibok issue came up, we expected Nigerians to be concerned about how to get these girls out. Within a couple of days, we saw people going to the US with ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ placards. How? Why? And of course Mrs. Obama received one of those placards” he said.

Ahead of the 2019 elections, Goodluck Jonathan who stated that he had faith in the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services to do well, however added that there is sense of worry among Nigerians regarding the neutrality of government agencies that will take part in the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

He said, “We are a bit worried about the neutrality of the relevant agencies of government because with previous elections, I was not in the field. Of course after every election, people will complain naturally but those are the areas people are getting worried but I believe the elections will come and go and those bodies- INEC, the police, the army and the DSS will be able to do well.”

On the supposed interference of President Barack Obama during the build-up to the 2015 general elections, Jonathan questioned the rationale behind the visit of US Secretary of State, John Kerry, to Nigeria on the eve of the elections, adding that such an interference should not be swept under kept.

He said, “The level of interference by the Obama government was very overwhelming. It is not as if I could not have won the election even with that. If by my own thinking and also the way other people looked at it, they go outside the normal diplomatic relationship, then it should be mentioned.

“Sending that person to Nigeria on the eve of elections even after Obama had issued a statement directing Nigerians to vote for the next chapter, that tells you something and we should not sweep these things under the carpet.

“If a foreign country whether African country or America interferes with our own elections, we should mention it.”

Foreign armed group invades Sokoto, levy residents

A foreign armed group has reportedly taken over a Sokoto community, and further imposed levies on residents of the community.

Foreign armed group invades Sokoto, levy residents lailasnews

A resident of the area, Mallam Bello Tangaza, who spoke with Saturday Sun on the development said that the foreign armed group was invited by the leaders of the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State few months ago. According to him, though only ten members of the armed group were invited for security purpose, but they ended up mobilizing others to terrorise the communities.

It was learnt that the group went round the community with weapons applying strange laws and punishing defaulters.

“What actually happened was that our communities were infringed by the activities of armed bandits from Zamfara State; we were inundated with cases of kidnappings, cattle rustling and our Nigerian securities were not doing much to curtail the situation,” Tangaza said. “So, our people were fed up and decided to contact these people, whom we all known as vigilance group. “The invitation became necessary when some armed bandits kidnapped our community leader (village head). This group came to our land during last Salah celebration (Eid el-Kabir). They came after police failed to rescue the victims. Our leader was rescued alive and we also recovered all our cattle and sheep earlier stolen by these bandits.

“Along the line, we accommodated them and even gave out our daughters to them in marriage. We also agreed to be contributing some stipends for their welfare since they are now our guests as security guards. All these were pre-arranged on just mutual understanding and in appreciation of their defence drive. But suddenly they broke this understanding and started going beyond their bounds. Now, they are forcing us to pay some levies without our volition. They have turned against us,” Tangaza explained.

The Local Government Information Officer, Bala Ibrahim Gidan-Madi however confirmed that the State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Murtala Mani, has visited the communities as part of effort to beef up security measures.

The State command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Cordelia Nwawe, however advised the people to go about their lawful business and desist from causing panic.

She said, “There is nothing like bandits and there is no need for people to be scared. The CP and his deputy in charge of operations went and saved the situation. There is no need for people to be apprehensive because whatever happened to Niger Republic has nothing to do with Nigeria. Those people are not operating in Nigeria but in Niger Republic. Tangaza is a boundary community. Even though people alleged that they saw strange people in the area with camels, donkeys and wives, it is not in Nigeria.”

He said, “My baby mama is not worried about the fact that we have not got married yet so people should not worry on our behalf.

He further revealed that his new song, Chimo, which is a gospel song, was one of his partner’s favourite songs, probably because the word Chimo means God.

He said, “She was not the one that influenced the song, Chimo. The song is a positive vibe. It is different from the other songs that I have been doing and I decided to change my style because change is the only constant thing in life. You can’t keep eating rice every day, you would get tired of it. I am changing my style in order to win more fans and add more value to their lives. Chimo means God. It is a gospel song. I would release gospel songs but I do not think I would make a gospel album.”

Wike resigns as PDP campaign zonal coordinator lailasnews

Recall that it was reported that apart from the Senate president, Ayo Fayose, Aminu Tambuwal, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Samuel Ortom, Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi were named as zonal coordinators.

While Governor Aminu Tambuwal was named as the Zonal Coordinator for NorthWest, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo was appointed Zonal Coordinator for North-East, Governor Samuel Ortom for North-Central, Governor Dave Umahi for South-East, Nyesom Wike for South-South and former Governor Ayodele Fayose as Zonal Coordinator for the SouthWest.

However a source close to the governor who spoke to Saturday Sun late Friday night, disclosed that Wike’s letter of resignation as Atiku’s campaign coordinator for the south south was ready and would be submitted today, Saturday.

It was gathered that Wike is not comfortable with the way things are going in the campaign, especially lack of consultations of appropriate party leaders before vital decisions and appointments are made. The source however said notwithstanding the resignation by the governor, he remains committed to the party and the 2019 campaigns.

Davido Is Too Proud —Fela’s Daughter, Motunrayo Kuti Rants

When Vanguard E-Daily reported that Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s daughter, Motunrayo Kuti dislikes Davido’s music, there were misconceptions that she has hatred for the ‘Assurance’ crooner but such is not the case as she has finally come out to set the records straight.

Motunrayo-Kuti In a chat with Vanguard, confirmed that she has no hatred for Davido but his pride, arrogance and music.

“I don’t hate Davido at all; it’s just something about his music. And then, he is too proud. I have no personal issues with his DMW gang too”, she confirmed. Speaking further, she explained why she patiently watched him perform at the recently concluded Felabration 2018.

“I watched Davido’s performance at Felabration because I’m not a hater like some people, and yes, he saw me. Although we had eye contact but he didn’t talk to be because he was performing and I didn’t intend to familiarize with him or any of his crew members. I was with my man and in one place.

‘I don’t care if he doesn’t know me, I don’t know him either. I was only at that show because of my man. He likes David’s music; he is even the one that makes me listen to his music. With how hectic that place was, I would have gone home since 2 a.m, but I respected my husband to-be”, she added.

I can’t take responsibility for Chibok girls’ abduction – Goodluck Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s former President who spoke in an interview with BBC stated he can’t take responsibility for Chibok girls’ abduction.

I can’t take responsibility for Chibok girls’ abduction – Goodluck Jonathan lailasnews

Politics Can Never Affect My Acting Career –Emeka Ike

Politics Can Never Affect My Acting Career –Emeka Ike

Veteran actor, Emeka Ike, recently announced his intention to contest a seat in the House of Representatives as the candidate of the Young Progressive Party for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency in Imo State in 2019.

He made this declaration on his Instagram page. Disclosing his campaign plans on his social media platform, Ike wrote, “Real leaders should step out to the centre stage; let’s sample the stuff you are made of. Not merely sharing money when you have no content.”

However, in a chat with PUNCH Correspondents, Emeka Ike noted that politics would never affect his acting career. He also talked about the changes he planned to bring to his constituency.

“I would like to add a presence in national issues; I would not want my constituency to be redundant. I would want to see areas where we can attract foreign investments. I want to see directives where we can include young people. I believe in grassroots politics.

“I believe there shouldn’t be anything called a village in the new world we live in right now; it depends on the kind of ministries you attract to the village,” he said.

He continued by stating the reason why he had made his intention known to the public.

“There is nothing to rush in life, everything happens in God’s time. It is all about telling the young men to come out,” he added.

Speaking to Saturday Beats about it, Ike, noted that he wanted to do his best for his people.

He said, “I was invited to represent my constituency, it is not just about me. I see it as putting in my best to serve my community better. I have always had leadership qualities and I have operated in leadership positions for a while, and it is all about human management.”

When asked if it was safe to refer to him as a former actor, Ike said he was still an actor. He also gave an insight into the secrets of his young and youthful looks despite his age.

He said, “I will still act good scripts when I see one; I just came back from a movie set in Kenya. Politics cannot affect my acting career. I take a lot of water and I don’t soak myself in alcohol and other things that could affect me on the inside. I function as a very smart person with so much energy. I don’t let anything weigh me down. Even when my school was shut down, the doctor checked me six months later and I was still okay. He was surprised that I didn’t have any chest pain.”

Omotola Jalade whose son M.J has produced songs for Seyi Shay and some other Nigerian music artistes, told Saturday Beats that she has not given up on her music career as it is one of her first loves.

The veteran actress said;

“Did I tell anyone that I have retired from music? I hope to do a song with my son but he is very stubborn. He has his own way of doing things. I hope that in future, we can collaborate; I have a certain kind of music that I do, I like rock and soft rock. He is still young and he is experimenting.

“He is doing a lot of stuff. Obviously, he is enjoying himself because he is a ‘rave at the moment’ and maybe he is thinking that I have not ‘blown’ as a musician. I hope to prove myself in the music industry even more than my song, Gba, did. In future when I have built my own place, I would love to perform on stage instead of being commercial-oriented. I enjoy playing on stage more; I enjoy recording and performing. I hope to get there and do that so that people like my son can take me more seriously. My son knows that I am very good when it comes to music but he says, ‘It is not me you would use to blow.’”

ASUU Strike: FG Enforces ‘No Work, No Pay’ Rule On Striking Lecturers

ASUU Strike: FG Enforces ‘No Work, No Pay’ Rule On Striking Lecturers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed vice-chancellors of striking public universities across the country to enforce “no-work-no-pay” rule on the striking lecturers.

The directive to implement the “no work, no pay” policy was communicated to the universities in a memo sent by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to university vice-chancellors.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on November 4 declared indefinite, nationwide strike over non-implementation of previous agreements by the federal government and demand for increased university funding.

At least two meetings have been held between the lecturers and the government since the strike commenced. However, both parties are yet to reach an agreement.

In the memo signed by NUC Director of Research, Information and Technology S.B Ramon-Yusuf, the university regulator stated that payment of salaries from any other sources but government funding will be viewed as violation of extant rules and government directive.

The memo reads, “In view of the current Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government has directed that there shall be no payment of any form of salaries and allowances to the staff on strike in federal and inter-varsity centers.

“Consequently, I am to direct Vice-Chancellors to apply the “No-work-no-pay” rule. However, Universities and inter-varsity centers are to pay salaries and allowances to Non-teaching staff.

“All Vice Chancellors and Directors of centers should note that the salaries to staff on strike from whatever source of funds shall be viewed as violation of extant rules and directive of the federal government of Nigeria.”

In a reaction to the memo, the Chairman of University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Deji Omole, described the federal government as shameless for owing lecturers seven years of unpaid, earned academic allowances. He said despite the debt, the government still wants lecturers to continue to work while the presidency and the National Assembly ‘feed fat’ on the wealth of the nation.

Mr Omole in a statement made available to PREMIUM TIMES Friday evening said it is sad that a government that prides itself as having integrity has shown it lacks integrity by failing to honour agreements reached with the union. He said the government has resulted to harassment and intimidation of ASUU members on a patriotic struggle to save public education in Nigeria.

Atiku’s visa status confidential – US official

A US Official, Brussel Brooks who responded to questions from journalist as he attended a programme in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday, stated that PDP’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku’s visa status is confidential.

Atiku’s visa status confidential - US official lailasnews

The Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate in Lagos who called on candidates at all levels, from presidential to House of Assembly elections, to focus on issue-based campaigns instead of dwelling on things that were not important to the well-being of Nigerians, stated that matters relating to the application for or issuance of visa to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, or any other individual was a confidential matter.

“The position of the US Mission has remained the same throughout any discussion on this issue that visas are a confidential matter.

“We don’t discuss visa status of any person, whether it be a highly rated official, a presidential candidate or an average citizen.

“Anyone who applies for a visa should know that there will be some records that are confidential. It is classified as a private document by the United States Government, and we never discuss them in public” he said.

The US official further told Nigerians to ask the candidates their plan to improve the education sector.

“Oftentimes, unfortunately, campaigns are full of distractions; things that are not that important to the lives and welfare of average Nigerians, especially the children that are with us today. What is important is to give them (children) the opportunities to serve in order to thrive in today’s world.

“This means they need good education. The schools should be improved. When I heard about the letter from the students describing their lack of books and dearth of desks in their schools, this is very disheartening. There are things that should be corrected.

“I will also encourage parents and voters to ask the candidates what they plan to do to improve education. I think issue-based campaigns will be beneficial to all Nigerians” he said.

Mr. Eazi Reveals How He Became A Superstar Within Two Years Of Breaking Into Nigerian Music Scene

Mr. Eazi Reveals How He Became A Superstar Within Two Years Of Breaking Into Nigerian Music Scene

Following the success of his recently released mix tape titled ‘Life Is Eazi – Vol.2: Lagos to London’, afro-pop music star, Mr. Eazi has revealed how he became a musical superstar and a successful entrepreneur in less than two years of breaking into the Nigerian music scene.

In a chat with Showtime, the singer who recently launched ‘emPawa’, a new initiative with the aim of searching out hidden talents in Africa, explained how a $1000 video made him the music star he is today.

“All it took for me to start my career was a video that cost me $1000; a career that has allowed me to tour the world, own a business and employ over 100 people. I have funded four videos for artistes in the past two years, thereby creating immense opportunities for them

One of those artistes was recently nominated for a BET award, so this is ultimately the real motivation behind this cause – providing opportunities for emerging artistes as well as mentoring them to have the knowledge to become music entrepreneurs like myself”, he said. He added that his mission for the initiative is to provide less privileged artistes with resources required to boost their individual music careers.

“The mission is simple; to uncover independent, emerging, talented artistes and to provide them with the resources and exposure to launch their own careers. By partnering with iconic figures in the music industry, I intend to equip the artistes with the tools, in-depth industry knowledge, network, and funds necessary for them to not only achieve their full potential but to sustain the independence they need to become music entrepreneurs.”

Cameroon stripped of 2019 AFCON hosting rights

Cameroon have been stripped of hosting rights for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (2019 AFCON), says the Confederation of African Football.

Cameroon stripped of 2019 AFCON hosting rights lailasenews

African football’s governing body (CAF) says it is because of delays in the progress of Cameroon’s preparation for the tournament, due to start in June.

Officials made the decision at a meeting on Friday in Accra, Ghana, that lasted more than 10 hours. CAF president Ahmad Ahmad says it will work to “determine a new organising country by the end of the year”.

The tournament is set to be the first held in June and July and will be expanded from 16 to 24 teams.
Ahmad said last year that Cameroon still needed “to convince Caf of its ability” to host the event, with the country playing down fears sanctions would be imposed if preparations were deemed to be behind schedule.

But in August the chairman of Caf’s Nations Cup organising committee, Amaju Pinnick, said “nobody is going to take it away from Cameroon”.

Morocco have been touted as potential hosts, having stepped in to hold this year’s African Nations Championship after Kenya were deemed not ready.

Dad reveals why he won't let his son read some parts of the Bible lailasnews

The man identified as Chike Delic Obi took to his Facebook page to list the reasons he won’t allow his child read some parts of the Bible. He wrote;

🎴There are parts of the Bible I can’t let my son read or hear about until he’s in the teens.

How do I explain to him that a ‘holy’ prophet sent bears to devour 42 children for mocking his baldness? 2 Kings 2: 23-25
This same bald head I have.

How do I explain to a child that a man was killed by God for pulling out and not getting his dead brother’s wife pregnant? Gen 38:9

How do I explain that God hated Esau before he was born without going into the murky waters of predestination vs free will? Rom 9: 11-13

How do I explain SLAVERY?
That it wasn’t expressly commanded against but was actually regulated including how to beat them and get away with their murder if they die after a few days. Ex 21: 20-21

How do I explain that verses in the Bible were used as an excuse to enslave his ancestors and convince them it was God’s will for them to obey their masters as unto the lord? Eph 6:5

How do I explain that women and children were killed for the sins of their husband/ fathers? Num 16: 27-33 (and more)

How do I explain that a man offered his virgin daughter to men that want to rape his male guests (and they actually rape her to death)? Gen 19: 8

AND SO MUCH MORE.

Someone gave us a Children’s picture Bible with story of the bald prophet and other disturbing content. I have long removed it from my house so he doesn’t see it. Just like I won’t expose him to violent and sexually explicit movies and books.
