COVID-19: Lagos begin distribution of food packs to households over lockdown

The Lagos state government says it has commenced the daily distribution of food packs to susceptible communities and households over the coronavirus crisis.

This was announced on Friday night by the state governor, Babajide  Sanwo-Olu, who said it will cushion the effects of the stay at home directive to stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

‘I struggled to breathe’ - Juventus star Dybala shares Coronavirus nightmare

Juventus player Paulo Dybala revealed Friday how he “struggled to breathe” after contracting coronavirus which has killed over 9,000 people in Italy.

The Argentine international announced last Saturday he was one of three Juventus players to catch the virus along with Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi, who both had no symptoms.

Nigerians cover Chioma, Davido with the blood of Jesus after she tested positive for COVID-19

Since news broke that Davido's fiancee, Chioma Avril Rowland, has tested positive for COVID-19, there has been outpouring of empathy and prayers for the celebrity chef and the singer.

Davido had taken to his Twitter page on Friday night to disclose that his wife-to-be has contracted the viral and killer virus following their return from the United States and United Kingdom.

Abuja, Oyo state records new cases of coronavirus as Nigeria hits 70

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Friday that the country has recorded five new cases of coronavirus, raising the toll from 65 to 70.

In its daily update, the centre said three cases of the virus were recorded in the federal capital territory (FCT) while two were recorded in Oyo.

NPA faults NCDC on coronavirus cases ‘detected on vessel’

While announcing 14 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday night, the NCDC had said that six of them were detected on a vessel.

South Africa records first two coronavirus deaths as cases top 1,000

South Africa on Friday reported its first two deaths from the novel coronavirus outbreak as the number of confirmed cases breached the 1,000 mark, the government said.

“This morning we wake South Africans up with sad news that we now have our first deaths resulting from COVID-19,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement.

China supplied fake coronavirus test kits to Spain, Czech Republic

The majority of rapid coronavirus test kits supplied by China to Spain and the Czech Republic have been reported to be faulty.

Spain has more than 56,000 infected people and more than 4,000 coronavirus deaths, the second-highest number of fatalities in the world after Italy.

Supreme court dismisses Zamfara APC application for review, award N2 million fine

The supreme court has dismissed an application by the All Progressive Congress (APC) seeking a review of the judgment which disqualified the governorship and all other candidates of the party in the Zamfara 2019 elections.

With one out of seven justices dissenting, the court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed, held that the application by the APC is an abuse of court process.

Appeal court upholds Orji Kalu's conviction, his co-convict gets bail to treat tuberculosis, cancer

Former governor of Abia state and chief whip of the senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, will remain in prison as a court of appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal filed against his sentence.

A federal high court in Lagos had in December sentenced Kalu to 12 years in prison over N7.1 billion fraud.
